Ribbon Cutting for Project One Haiti

Ribbon Cutting & ground breaking ceremonies are a free service that we provide to Chamber Members only. These events offer new business the chance to invite members, the Board of Directors, Diplomats, and City and County officials to their location as well as speak about their business.

ABOUT PROJECT ONE HAITI

Project One Haiti started after a visit to Haiti in August 2011. We had been to Haiti several times after the earthquake but this was our first time to visit the Odascot Orphanage.  After seeing the children in such great need and the three women who were caring for them in such a state of exhaustion, we knew we had to do something to help them. We came home and prayed and spent time with God about the situation there.  My husband, Chris Jeffers and I started Project One Haiti.  We added Sabrina Serna to help keep us always on a positive note.

We have returned to Odascot every two months since and are making progress.  We brought a water filter to give the children clean water but we still have to rebuild and clean the cistern.  We have built a roof-top garden but we have to teach the caregivers and the children to replant as each crop comes to harvest.  We will be building a chicken coop on this next trip but we have to teach the children how to care for the chickens and eggs. We have brought clothing but we need to teach them how to care for them and put them away when they are clean.

But most importantly, we saw the hopelessness in the eyes of these dear people that comes from not knowing the living Hope.  We brought them gifts and items but we still need to teach them that all good things come from God.  We need to bring them Jesus.  We need to give them the living water.  We need to give them the bread of Life.  We need to give them the meat of the Word.

There is a lot to be done.  The only way to do all these things is to be on the ground in Haiti and to wrap our arms around these people with the love of Christ.
