Job Summary: Operates heavy equipment, drives trucks and performs manual labor in the performance of a variety of tasks. Assignments may be in the Water or Wastewater Collections or Distribution Division.
Operates front-end loader, tractor backhoe and other equipment in the repair and installation of water mains and sewers.
Operates farm-type tractor with related equipment to perform daily grounds maintenance activities.
Operates mowers, string trimmer, blower, edger, chain saw, and yard vacuum to perform daily grounds maintenance activities.
Performs daily maintenance on equipment. Tasks include fueling, lubrication, checking fluid levels, general preventive maintenance checkout and cleaning.
Assists maintenance department personnel with corrective and preventive maintenance activities as directed by the supervisor.
Performs housekeeping duties on maintenance vehicles and equipment as assigned. Performs all work in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating and emergency procedures.
Performs all work to produce an end result which meets all goals and objectives set by Management.

Must demonstrate the competent operation of front-end loader, tractor backhoe, and farm-type tractors and related equipment.
Requires the ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.
Five years' experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
Must possess a valid State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and be able to operate vehicles with automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive.
CDL License required or obtainable in 9 months.
Must be willing to carry a company-provided cell phone, work schedules which may include weekend or holiday duty, and be willing to respond to emergencies at any time.
High School Diploma or GED required.
DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL
Must possess the ability to perform tasks sitting (55%), standing (10%) and walking (35%).
Work positions include sitting on and operating tractor, tractor backhoe, motor grader, front-end loader, or riding lawn mower (65%), squatting or kneeling (10%), and working with hands extended above head 18 inches (5%) and 30 inches in front of body (20%).
Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds while walking distances of 25 feet.
Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic and environmental conditions; and must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.

May perform operations and maintenance functions requiring manual dexterity and precision movements, continuous or repetitive arm and hand movements, grasping movements, and occasional forceful exertion.
Exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, bending and reaching, climbing stairs and ladders.
May lift, carry, push/pull objects and materials: regularly up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds (manhole covers, grinder pumps, 50# bags of dry chemical, etc.), and occasionally up to 100 pounds (with aid).
Perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth and visual cues or signals.
Visual and muscular dexterity to operate a motor vehicle, equipment, hand tools and computer.
May operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer terminal and telephone.
May be required to work in confined spaces and at elevations.
May occasionally be required to wear hearing protection.
May require an irregular work schedule and overtime hours.
May be required to wear a respirator
The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a plant environment, and may be performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials and chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and water hazards.
