Executive Director
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Oversees the operations and instructional functions of the school: ensures compliance with charter school law, state board rule, non-profit law, and the charter; implements the mission and core beliefs in the school; oversees budget development and the fiscal health; acts as a liaison between the school, Governing Board, the Douglas County School System, and the community, Serves as the Chief Operations Officer leading overall management of the school, including personnel. REQUIRMENTS: Education Level: Ed.S. or higher in Educational or Nonprofit Leadership, 15 or more years’ experience in educational leadership preferred; 10 or more years’ experience in charter school or district level administration preferred; in addition to education degree, business degree and/or experience preferred. Certification/License: L6 preferred. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities required to fulfill job responsibilities, ability to move 30 pounds, stamina to work long hours and handle stressful situations. Proficient Skills: Instructional and business leadership skills; knowledge of charter school and laws governing charter school, strong functional business knowledge related to personnel, insurance, facilities, accounting, and funding; strong financial acumen, including an understanding of funding sources and comprehensive school budget management; general knowledge of all office equipment; ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism; professional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate professionally with students, parents, staff, and the community; ability to analyze a variety of financial statements and make necessary recommendations; ability to write and procure grants and solicit and retain external donor relationships; ability to interact and report charter related data and information to stakeholders; ability to cast vision to broad audiences, lead strategic planning and develop long-term strategic plans for the school. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: ? Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior at all times ? Support the school leadership to create a professional learning community that promotes excellence in academics and business practices supporting the mission of the charter ? Ensure the charter is implemented and adherence to the school’s mission and core values ? Maintain strong charter school business and leadership acumen ? Financial oversight, collaborating with the CFO to ensure long-term fiscally responsible stewardship ? Act as the primary point of contact for the Charter Authorizer and State DOE? Ensure prompt and correct submission of all reports required at the federal, state, and local levels ? Establish and maintains relationship with counsel to ensure legal support exists for all legal issues ? Establish an effective communication strategy that both informs and equips stakeholders with relevant and timely updates pertaining to the school ? Manage and lead necessary contingency plans ? Lead succession planning for various roles and functions supporting the school ? Oversee and monitor the administrative human resources functions ? Participate in school-related activities ? Deliver an annual State of the School address ? Model a high emotional quotient and behaviors that exemplify EL values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and personal growth ? Supervision and personnel leadership of all staff ? Regularly assess effectiveness of academic programs working in collaboration with the Principal, leveraging student achievement results and parent survey ? In partnership with the Principal, make recommendations to the Governing Board for student discipline-related matters and employment termination ? Collaborate with the Executive Committee of the Governing Board to ensure all logistics and material requirements are met for Board meetings ? In partnership with the Principal, lead instructional leadership team ? Regularly evaluate and improve staff selection process; make recommendations to the Board for employment ? Ensures the EL work-plan aligns with strategic plan, and staff needs ? Partner with school principal to facilitate staff development trainings ? Oversee facility maintenance plan and ensure compliance with all state, federal, local laws, and regulations ? Oversee the development and monitoring of yearly improvement plans ? Create, evaluate, and monitor school safety plan ? Ensure implementation of the Governing Board’s strategic plan ? Regularly collaborate with the Board Chair to set board meeting agendas ? Write, and modify, in conjunction with the administration team, the parent and staff handbooks in compliance with the charter ? Attend county level meetings, chamber meetings, and other business-related meetings as a representative and advocate for Brighten Academy, building relationships that propel the school’s mission ? Write and secure grants for capital funding, leadership development, professional development, and/or instructional supplies ? Ensure compliance with all building codes, fire codes (including planning and reporting drills), and other codes/rules related to facility or risk ? Recommend to the Governing Board charter related policies, and once adopted, ensures the policies are implemented with fidelity ? In partnership with the Governing Board, supervise and evaluate principal ? Orient new staff members and assists in their development as needed ? Report financial and educational data to the Governing Board regularly and data requested by authorizers ? Attend Governing Board meetings and serves as ex-officio member of Governing Board ? Coordinate and lead all accreditation initiatives ? Seek opportunities for external recognition of the school ? Establish and maintain a donor program ? Actively recruit and retain local strategic partnerships and donors ? Oversee, coordinate and evaluates all service providers ? Participate in Adult Crew ? Participate and seek leadership opportunities in professional communities such as GAEL, WGVTC, Chamber of Commerce, GCSA, GSBA, etc. ?
