Job Summary

The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development, planning, and execution of a diverse range of age-appropriate activities during out-of-school time, including after-school and summer periods. Additionally, the role involves supervising personnel and ensuring accurate completion of reports required for compliance purposes. Emphasis will be placed on program knowledge for youth development and engagement, organizational and leadership skills. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program schedule that includes a variety of engaging and educational activities suitable for different age groups.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure that activities are effectively planned and executed, adhering to established guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Supervise program staff, providing guidance, support, and training as needed to ensure smooth operation and high-quality delivery of services.
  • Monitor program activities to assess effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and make necessary adjustments to enhance overall quality.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including attendance records, activity logs, and incident reports, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with program leadership to provide updates on program activities, challenges, and achievements.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents/caregivers by providing timely communication, soliciting feedback, and addressing any concerns or inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to expand program offerings, access additional resources, and enhance overall program impact.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, social work, or a related field. Previous experience working with children and youth in a formal educational or recreational setting. Leadership experience, including the ability to motivate and empower staff to achieve program goals. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of positive reinforcement techniques, conflict resolution and de-escalation
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and enjoy working with all age groups.
  • Knowledge of Outlook, internet applications, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
  • Knowledge of developing and implementing engaging activities tailored to the age and interests of youth participants
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication 
  • Skilled in problem-solving abilities to identify challenges, assess needs, and implement solutions in real-time
  • Ability to interact effectively with members, guests, and staff of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and education levels.
  • Ability to develop and implement engaging activities, based on the youth’s age, that stimulate curiosity, creativity and learning.
  • Ability to lead and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with members, guests, clients, and employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position involves various physical movements, including lifting, standing, bending, and other actions necessary to support children in both indoor and outdoor games and activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Incumbent works in both in indoor/outdoor setting, busy and noisy environment. Some varied weather conditions are expected with exposure to heat/humidity, or cool/cold weather. Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
